EU project in support to Kosovo Environment concluded

26.09.2012 - The EU twining project in support to Kosovo’s environment sector was completed today with a conference held in Prishtina attended by officials of the EU office in Kosovo, foreign diplomats and Kosovo government officials. Among other participants at the conference “Support for Kosovo’s Environment Sector” were Melvin Osin from EU office in Kosovo, Austrian Ambassador Johann Brieger, Finish Ambassador Anne Meskane, the Kosovo deputy-Minister Ilir Mirena and the Executive Chief of Kosovo’s Environment Protection Agency (KEPA) Dr. Sc. Ilir Morina.
Participants said that the project was successful with achievements related to monitoring of environment system, increasing of environment database and institutional capacities improvements. Mr. Mirena assessed that achievements of the project are important for meeting the criteria and standards for Kosovo’s European integration process. Dr. Sc. Morina put an special emphasises on the importance related to the project on reporting on environment issues in Kosovo and the fruitful cooperation with European Environment Agency.
The project was assessed successful also by the representative of Austrian Environment Agency Mr. Arnulf Schönbauer who among others said that the project has achieved its goal and in some elements results went beyond expectations. The implementation of the project was launched in late 2010 and was curried out for 22 months with a cost of 1.1 million Euros. It’s the first EU project of such kind in Kosovo implemented under supervision of Austrian Environment Agency. KEPA is looking forward for access to other EU funds aimed at further improvements in environment sector in Kosovo.
